At Birdtail Ranch, we make an effort to produce cattle that work well in our program and do the very same for you. Our cow herd runs on grass normally about nine months out of the year. We keep the cows at the ranch where we live during calving which runs about the end of January to early April. Then, the cows go back to grazing land between Simms and Cascade on Birdtail Creek. Their only supplement during this time is some cake during the breeding season in early spring and in the fall we provide a protein supplement prior to bringing them in for calving when we feed hay.
Our replacement females are weaned and then turned back on hay meadows. When necessary, they are fed second cutting grass hay and supplemented with 18% protein tubs. Then they are developed in a feedlot from December 1 to AI time, at the end of April. They are not fed any grain.
Our cow herd is made up of daughters by Hughes Farms Elijah, Vermilion Yellowstone, TC Stockman 365, VNAR Famous, Leachman Right Time and Stevenson Royce 741C.
Herd sires are Bear Mountain Stockman 747, Hughes Farms Elijah, BTR Uptown 246 sired by Vermilion Yellowstone and BTR Special Rate 358. AI sires include WCC Special Design L309, Vermilion Payweight J847, Connealy Danny Boy, TC Freedom 104, TC Stout 407, Vermilion Yellowstone and M&W Universe 204 of Univ X939.
